    The Time Has Come

By on May 2, 2019 in See It Here

The next time you hit a pothole, or complain about a horrible commute or face a detour because a bridge has been closed, feel free to use the required four-letter word(s).

And then face this single fact: The federal gas tax has not been increased since 1993. For every gallon of gas you buy, 18.4 cents is designated for road repairs and infrastructure.

Here’s another fact: The hourly wage in 1993 was $7.87/hour. It would be a little tough to stay healthy with that kind of income today.

Now, the common mantra from Republicans has been: There is too much waste in government and the last thing middle class America should face is one more tax.

Add those words to the required ones when hitting that pothole.

Note to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell: Yes it will cost more to get goods to stores by trucks. But it is still cheaper than buying a new tire or axle or shocks or an alignment.

I hope this makes some “cents.”
